Frequently Asked Questions

What does a “hull only” build include?
A hull only boat project normally includes the wood hull and deck (configured as you want it), stern tube and rudder and bow eye.

How long does it take to build a boat?
Once we get started, it usually takes six to eight months to a year to build a fully-outfitted boat, depending on what else I am working on, and on what I am to build.

What kind of payment do you require?
Generally, I like 25% down to get a project started. And then 25% twice more during the project as it progresses and the last 25% after I'm finished.

Where can I get a boat trailer?
We can get you a trailer at a local supplier, or you can furnish one. We usually have to adjust the bunks to fit the boat, plus once the boat is upright, we like to put it on the trailer to work on the inside. So, we need to have it here in our shop about halfway through the project.

What other options should I think about?
Some of the options you might want to consider are the floor and seat configuration, storage compartments, whether to have a brass strip on the keel, whether to have wood or brass rub rails, how the steering should work and where the steering wheel(s) will be located. As for the steam equipment, the location and configuration of the engine and boiler, whether to condense or not, etc. We can provide all the steam equipment or, if you already have an engine and/or boiler that is suitable, we'll be glad to use it. I can build you a ready-to-run boat or, if you're interested in doing this yourself, I will work with you to make sure you get the appropriate matching equipment for your boat so you will be successful the first time out.
