Steam Runabout I

The Steam Runabout is 15' long, with a 4'9" beam. It normally runs about 5 knots, with a capacity of 1 or 2 people. It needs about a 2- to 3-horsepower engine turning a 15-inch propeller. Current weight on this boat with engine and boiler is about 700 or 800 pounds.

The hull is based on a Herreshoff design, similar to the “catspaw dinghy”. This boat trailers easily with a small pickup truck and does surprisingly well in rough water.

Approximate price for a hull and deck of this size is $6,000.

By the way, that's me, Ronnie Baird, in the blue shirt.
